Indigo Dyeing with Hanoux Conscious Color August 9th 12-3 PM
Welcome to the mystery of Indigo! Indigo is one of the oldest plant based dying methods in the world. Intense colors appear before your eyes as the Indigo oxidizes with the air.
Hulse Hill Farm is thrilled to hosting Hannah from Hanoux Conscious Color to facilitated this program. Participants will learn about the history and cultivation of indigo plants, the science behind indigo dyeing, and the step-by-step process of using indigo dye paste to create beautiful, vibrant colors on fiber. We will picking our farms indigo for fresh indigo dye options, as well as experiencing the ancient and fascinating technique of Shibori . We will learn how to make the indigo bath together and create swatches of silk and cotton dyed different shades of blue. Everyone will learn the basics of shibori (tie dye) methods to create patterns on cloth using string.
This is a technique includes folding the fabric then binding it with rubber bands or sandwiching it between wooden blocks to create a variety of shapes and lines. After the fabric is folded and bound, it then is ready to be dyed. Participants will bring a natural fiber piece made of cotton or other plant fiber from home to dye.
Whether you're a seasoned dyer or new to the craft, this workshop will deepen your understanding of indigo and provide you with the skills to incorporate this captivating dye into your fiber art projects.
